Crystal Pier has more than one meaningful date. Its own history identifies 1927 as the completion year, while a detailed local account describes the project taking shape in stages before that opening. The 1936 date marks a major remodel and reopening, not the original build.
- Mid-1920s — The pier project takes shape. Pacific Beach promoters pursued an attraction to bring visitors to the area.
- July 1927 — Crystal Pleasure Pier opens. The 950-foot pier debuted with a ballroom, amusement midway, and the name that inspired “Crystal Pier.”
- April 19, 1936 — A remodeled pier reopens. The rebuilt attraction included ten motel cottages and a soda fountain.
