Embarcadero Marina Park Pier belongs to a larger late-20th-century waterfront project. The often-cited 1978 date describes the surrounding park redevelopment; the fishing pier itself is documented as a 1980 dedication.
- Late 1970s — Marina-park redevelopment takes shape. New public bayfront park space was created as part of San Diego’s downtown waterfront transformation.
- 1980 — Fishing pier dedicated. The pier became a public fishing spot just up the shoreline from the Coronado Bridge.
- Today — Compact T-shaped footprint. The pier extends about 95 feet from shore and widens to roughly 300 feet at its end.
